Can blunt bullets penetrate plate carriers?
Technically, anything that is fired from a good distance at a high velocity is bound to do some degree of damage upon impact. Blunt bullets naturally are not able to cause as much deadly harm as the normal bullet rounds. However, due to the speed at which it would be shot, it might leave some scar on the wearer.

When it comes to bullets and penetration, plate carriers can only perform according to their level of ballistic resistance. Not all plate carriers can stop AK-47 rounds. There are some hard armor plates that would give way in the face of rifle rounds and armor-piercing bullets. So, the ballistic rating of the plate carrier has a lot to say when answering the question of blunt bullet penetration.
It is important for you to note that Level II and Level IIA plates would not be able to do some much against these bullets, even though they are blunt. These plates are primarily meant for mild ballistic threats. This is why they are often lesser in weight as well as in protection too. However, plate carriers with ratings of Level III and Level IIIA would be able to put a halt to most common handgun rounds.
Level III and Level IIIA plate carriers can also halt the speeding movement of a .44 magnum and .9mm rounds. But they cannot do well against large projectiles and rifle rounds. These can only be specifically stopped by a rifle rate armor or a Level IV plate. It goes without saying that these plates are as heavy as the protection that comes with it. You are assured of a daredevil performance in the face of any forms of ballistic threats.
Although these plate carriers might be able to stop the penetration of blunt bullets, they might not be able to stop its impact trauma.
